18-043018-IM to MR – CNO John Richardson

Under President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, announced Admiral John Richardson’s nomination to succeed Admiral Jonathan Greenert as Chief of Naval Operations. Richardson began serving as the 31st Chief of Naval Operations on September 18, 2015. He has set out a strategy for new large surface combatants that uses some of the tricks the Navy is employing on the FFG(X) (eg USS Zumwalt) and the unmanned MQ-25 Stingray tanker: looking at existing hull forms as a base for a tailor-made future combatant that can evolve over time. This new two phase system can update weapons, power and electronic systems quickly to the latest version available which is a vast improvement over the old one-bid system during which the equipment was often out of date before the ship was commissioned. We can only hope the current occupant of the WH retains this valuable human resource (article below)
